> Characters & Threats Guide
Welcome to the Game 3 features 8 unique threats that stalk the motel. Each has distinct warning sounds, entry methods, and counter-strategies. Learning to identify threats before they reach you is the most important survival skill in the game.

🎧 Threat Overview — Sound Cues & Sensors
Your motion sensors are the first line of defense. The beep duration tells you who is approaching:
- Short beep (~2 seconds) → Tanner — rustling grass, quieter approach
- Long beep (5–6+ seconds) → Lucas — lockpicking sounds, more warning time
The recommended sensor setup uses 3 sensors: left motel end, right motel end, and Lucas's back door. A 4th sensor at the dumpster is NOT recommended — it can cause Lucas to attack repeatedly (reported bug).
Patrol the motel regularly to check for signs of each threat. Some leave visual evidence (footprints, disturbed doors, cigarette butts). Use your peephole before opening any door — never assume who is on the other side.
🎯 Full Threat Profiles
Noir (Myra)
Threat level: Medium · Entry: Front door
Appearance trigger: Random patrol — Myra walks the motel corridor periodically.
Sound cue: Pacing footsteps outside the door, followed by knocking.
Behavior: She knocks and waits. If you make eye contact through the peephole or door window, she becomes more aggressive. If ignored too long, she forces entry.
Counter: Look away from the door. Do not make direct eye contact. Wait for her to say "Good boy" and leave. The peephole is safe to use — just don't linger.
Lucas
Threat level: High · Entry: Back door (lockpick)
Appearance trigger: Random patrol. Lucas targets the back entrance specifically.
Sound cue: Lockpicking/scraping metal. Sensor trigger produces a long 5–6 second beep.
Behavior: Picks the lock on the back door. If the door is unlocked, he enters silently. If locked, he works on the lock until he succeeds or is interrupted.
Counter: Keep ALL doors locked at all times. The back door sensor is essential — without it, you may not hear him until he is inside. A door wedge can slow his entry significantly.
The Kidnapper
Threat level: Very high · Entry: Outside ambush
Appearance trigger: Watches from a white van parked near the motel. May be present from the start or arrive during the night.
Sound cue: Engine noise, van door sliding. No motion sensor trigger (he does not approach the building on foot initially).
Behavior: Stakes out the motel from his van. If you go outside alone, he may attempt to grab you. Fast and deadly once he commits.
Counter: Use cameras mounted on utility poles to spot the van. If you see it, avoid going outside alone. Travel in pairs or use distractions. The panic button does not work on him — he is too fast.
Tanner
Threat level: Medium · Entry: Outside approach (any door)
Appearance trigger: Random patrol. Approaches from the motel exterior.
Sound cue: Grass rustling / footsteps on grass. Short beep (~2 seconds) on motion sensors.
Behavior: Approaches quietly. Tests doors and windows. Quicker than Lucas but less persistent.
Counter: Use the panic button when you hear the grass rustling. Note: Patch 1.0.1 introduced a spam penalty for the panic button — only press it when you are certain a threat is present. False alarms waste your defense cooldown.
Tucker
Threat level: Medium · Entry: Power/internet boxes or bathroom
Appearance trigger: Ambushes near electrical or internet boxes. Also known to hide in the bathroom.
Sound cue: Old/vintage music playing from the bathroom. If you hear music, Tucker is already inside your room.
Behavior: Triggers a music chase event — you must reach the Ace of Spades room to escape. He sabotages power and internet connections.
Counter: Be extremely cautious when reconnecting cables at power/internet boxes. If you hear music from the bathroom, do NOT enter — flee toward the Ace of Spades room instead.
Cletus
Threat level: Low (if prepared) / High (if not) · Entry: Front door
Appearance trigger: Visits periodically throughout the night. May knock or just try the door.
Sound cue: Heavy knocking, gruff voice. Distinct from other threats.
Behavior: Demands methamphetamine. If you have exactly 1 bag, he takes it and leaves peacefully. If you have more than 1 bag, he takes ALL of them. If you have none, he becomes aggressive and may force entry.
Counter: Carry exactly 1 bag of meth at all times. Hide surplus bags in different locations around the room. Find the initial bag during your first 60-second room search.
The Breather
Threat level: Low · Entry: Paranormal (already inside)
Appearance trigger: Random. May appear at any point during the night.
Sound cue: Heavy breathing — close, as if someone is standing right behind you. Often masked by television or computer noise.
Behavior: A psychological threat. Disorients you but does not directly attack. Lingers until you acknowledge it.
Counter: Stay calm. Check your surroundings. Turn off the TV when you need to hear ambient sounds — the Breather's breathing can mask the approach of other, more dangerous threats.
The Bomb Maker
Threat level: Extreme · Entry: Remote activation (website)
Appearance trigger: Only activates AFTER you visit The Bomb Maker's website on the deep web.
Sound cue: Ticking. Distinct, rhythmic ticking that increases in pace.
Behavior: Plants explosive devices in or near your room after you visit his site. The ticking is a death timer — you have limited time to find and disarm each device.
Counter: Do not visit The Bomb Maker's site early. There is no way to deactivate him once triggered. If you hear ticking, check immediately for planted bombs. Disarming in the dark is extremely difficult — the flashlight turns off, making the keypad hard to see. Plan your bomb response route in advance.
Patch 1.0.1: Bomb disarm timing windows may have been adjusted. Test your response speed before relying on last-second disarms.

🛡️ Threat Priority Summary
When multiple threats are active, prioritize in this order:
- The Bomb Maker — ticking timer, immediate lethal threat
- The Kidnapper — instant kill if you step outside
- Lucas — persistent, will eventually pick any lock
- Tanner / Tucker — medium threat, can be managed with sensors
- Noir / Cletus — manageable with proper preparation
- The Breather — nuisance, not lethal
